Context:
Having been around for a few years, P. Diddy's REVOLT TV is firmly rooted within the culture and has always worked to promote and engage the greater community whenever possible. With this ethos at heart, The Chairman sought to host a series of multi-city Hip Hop festivals that would defy what the public meant when they said 'Hip Hop'. These events would have panel-heavy programming hosting talks and fireside-chats with some of the industries biggest musicians, business-people and creatives. The aim here was to keep the DIY, hussle-n-grind spirit of Hip Hop and focus it on skills, education and empowerment as opposed to singularly focussed on expected music performance. Liquor and beats were swopped out for personal coaching-sessions and career-fairs - all with the sole aim of empowering communities on a personal level with knowledge, inspiration and encouragement.
Action:
The Superfly team were charged with taking over an iconic 787 Windsor venue in Atlanta to create a clean space for the event in an otherwise industrial setting. Settings were kept simple and bold with the focal point being an set of outdoor galleries built in repurposed shipping containers. These acted as a pop of colour in the monochrome space and made for pockets of interest for visitors to get lost in.
Role: Art Director
I worked on a tight team to develop the user experience and overall venue aesthetic. A large part of my responsibilities was finding and working with local creatives to create the outdoor gallery installations and provide creative materials for the greater festival spaces. I also oversaw production of signage and was heavily involved in the install process.
